Product Manager, a designation that has a word called Manager but if you understand the work culture then you can realize that it is a flat hierarchy. No one is working under Product Manager but one interesting fact that the Product Manager is working with all.
One must be amused that what kind of role it is which works with all. Yes, it is the beauty of the Product Manager. Product Manager works with all, can say works with all departments. The product Manager fills the gap for all departments and teams so that everyone works for the products and owns some sort of responsibility.
We can say that one who owns the product and who is responsible for the product's success called the Product Manager. The Product Manager is not in charge of the complete product if the product is very vast. In certain situations only, the Product Manager owns the complete product.
Let's Understand in this way, If we have to build a rocket then it has a million components and parts so in that case, the complete rocket would be divided into different parts or categories and each part would be managed by their Product Manager. If you have started one candy business then you don't have such a complex system and the entire product could be owned by one product manager. This could be controversial but this topic answers would change with respect to industry and requirements.
The Product Manager works as:
* Problem Solver
* Enabler
* Organizer
* Communication Hub
* Researcher
* Prioritizer
* Communicator
* Presentor
After going through the above points, One can say that the Product Manager is "Jack of All Trades".
I completely agree with them who understands Product Manager is getting hands dirty with each team and department.
Let's Understand in a simple way, If you want to draw a conclusion then you must validate all sources of information. If one wants to get the optimum solutions then one has to understand the complete problem.
