Product Manager and Project Manager both are different so please don't confuse about these two roles. Both roles are leadership roles.
The Product Manager has to set the vision for the Product and gather all User needs and requirements. These user needs and requirements are converted into product Features after strong validation.
The product manager role is an experimental role and he/she is allowed to experiments and bring and validate the ideas while making the product.
Typical tasks for the Product Manager:
1. Talking to the Client and Customer to collect the needs and requirements.
2. Identify the problems and pain points.
3. Convert each problem and pain points into features.
4. Decide which one is worth(after validation).
5. Design the Product Roadmap and Strategic Guides.
6. Prioritize the tasks
7. Execute the task to build the Product.
8. Pre and Post Product Launch activities.
9. Do the Market research for enhancements and rectifying the defects.
Once the product reaches its maturity level then the Product Manager starts developing another Product. We already know the Product Lifecycle.
Product Lifecycle Phase:
1. Introduction phase.
2. Growth phase.
3. Maturity phase.
4. Decline Phase.
The Product Manager has to involve himself in all phases of the Product and parallelly he could make multiple products.
The Project Manager has to estimate and prioritize the project. He/she has to schedule the project's entity. The project manager focuses mostly on the execution side.
Like:
1. Estimate the total number of hours to complete the Project.
2. Procurement for all kinds of resources to complete the Project.
3. Less Experimentation is allowed.
4. Optimization of the resources.
5. Optimized scheduling.
Project Management has a start and fixed date with a defined outcome. It has 5 phases:
1. Initiations
2. Planning
3. Execution
4. Monitoring and control
5. Closure
The Project Manager has to solve:
1. Risk and Issue Management.
2. Planning and Resource scheduling.
3. Scope Management.
The Product Manager has to decide and complete the goal whereas the Project Manager has to complete the Project. The project could be part of Product development.
The Product Manager works in a cross-functional domain and focuses on the internal as well as external matters pertained with the Product development whereas the Project Manager works usually internally.
The Product Manager focuses on "What and Why" whereas the Project Manager focuses on How and When.
