User Personas is like a characteristic which includes information about the Users and Customers. Please don't confuse with the Users and Customers. Users who actually use your products and when you reach out to them, they could give you each and every detail (good and bad) about your product which is useful.
Customers are likely who bought your product but did not use products but knows the product well.
Let's understand in this way. You are working as a director of a Media company and heading the marketing team.
You need to buy some sort of software which gives you the complete analytics about the traffic on your website.
This software is purchased by the director but he used rarely and gave this software credentials to their underlings to make the report and present it to the team.
Here, Mr.Director is a customer of the Product and their underlings who actually use this software called users.
Users would give granular level feedback while as Customer would give the high-level feedback so now it is clear that feedback from users is important.
User Personas are created using feedback. It actually helps the Product Manager and Product Team to decide and design the User Stories.
User Personas includes:
1. Who are they?
2. What is their goal?
3. What are the concerns and challenges faced using our/existing products?
Q. Who are they?
In order to make the User Personas, We need to Understand the audience type. Their complete details like demographic details, Psychographic details include some granular level
details also like age, age group, gender, profession.
Q. What are their goals?
We are already clear about Product Vision and gives an idea that what is my problem?
How to solve this problem and if we have some solutions then which user type is more and which is less then we can understand the audience goal and relate to our product's solution details.
This process would allow the PM to get quality data with a strong quantity that how many want "X" and How many want "Z". It could have multiple goals but their number would decide,
Whether that pertained feature should be included or not.
Q. What are the concerns and challenges faced using our /existing products?
If you have already one product and it is used by the users then you can get the straight answers but if you are in the development/iteration stages then you can use the similar products available
in the market to encash the features challenges or barriers so that you can remove those barriers while making this new product.
While making User Personas, you need to follow some simple 5 steps:
1. Clear the Product Visions
2. Design simple and suitable questions for the survey
3. Use Multiple platforms to reach out to more(use Popular Platform or your popular product page)
4. Data Analysis
5. Draw the User personas
